The Singing Athlete Intensive
Lausanne, Switzerland

Daily masterclasses, hands-on neuroscience in the field, and a capstone performance — all set against the majesty of the Alps.

Lausanne, Switzerland Week 1 & Week 2 Available Retreat-Style Format

Your body, your voice,
your environment

Brain-based singing training is all about nervous system regulation and integration. How does your daily life affect your voice? The way your body moves on land versus water? What happens when you trade a skyline for open horizons?

Come experience the “wizard magic” of applied neuroscience — with real-world application in the stunning, calming nature of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Learn how your inner ear helps you balance on a paddleboard and access your mix. Find out whether cold water immersion or soaking in the Genevan sun benefits your nervous system and voice most.

Lausanne, Switzerland

Lausanne is a vibrant city set on the hillside of the northern shore of Lake Geneva — a mix of cultural charm, cobblestone streets, trendy nightlife, and a hopping arts scene. The Lavaux terrace vineyards decorate the hillside above; alpine lake life lines the shores below.

Just across the lake: France. A quick ferry ride brings you to historic lakeside towns like Évian-les-Bains, shadowed by the towering French Alps.

🏔
Views of the French Alps Step outside and look across the lake to France — a stunning natural backdrop for every training day.
Day Trip to France An optional afternoon trip to Évian-les-Bains for an outdoor workshop — a ferry ride to a different country.
🍇
Lavaux Vineyard Terraces A UNESCO World Heritage landscape just above the city — hiking terrain like nowhere else in the world.
🌍
English-Friendly The intensive is taught entirely in English. Lausanne is one of the most internationally accessible cities in Switzerland.

Two Weeks, Two Pathways

Week One  ·  July 14–18, 2026

Foundations of Brain-Based Singing Training

Experience the foundations of brain-based training while immersed in the stunning natural beauty of the Swiss landscape. We’ll physicalise the foundations of functional, applied neurology through immersive experience, then bring these techniques into the studio as singing artists. This week takes a sensorial-first, body-forward approach to brain-based training.

Physical requirements: Be ready to use your whole body — activities take place on land and in water. You should be able to stand for an hour and move comfortably through a range of physical experiences. A healthy level of mobility and strength is required. Questions or concerns? Reach out before enrolling.
What to Expect: Every day includes a physical activity, a theoretical practicum in brain-based performance, and a masterclass to put it all into practice. Days run 8:30am–6pm; optional evening activities may be proposed. Weather permitting — bring a rain jacket and a sense of adventure. Enrollment is limited.

Ideal For

  • Curious and adventurous artists who want to learn the foundations of brain-based training through novel experience, primarily outside of the classroom
  • Performers and teachers with experience in a functional, applied neurology approach who want to focus on physical experience and the foundations from a body-forward perspective

  • 5 days of brain-based training with application to voice and body
  • Daily masterclass format with solo song preparation
  • Daily activities in scenic Lausanne — hiking, paddleboarding, boat rides, aerial or land-based yoga, lakeside lounging (weather and physical ability permitting)
  • One afternoon trip to Évian-les-Bains, France — an outdoor workshop, just a ferry ride to a different country
  • All masterclass sessions accompanied by a live pianist/music director

Daily Sample Schedule — Week 1 (subject to change)

9am Morning masterclass to assess individual needs.
12pm Travel to lunch in Fribourg.

If you are a professional singer, actor, dancer, public speaker, or any other performance-based trajectory, this is your chance to employ The Singing Athlete™ method in your own training and develop a deeper understanding of the anatomy and physiology of your voice — in a stunning European landscape.

Got Questions?

I’m a voice teacher — is this right for me?

Absolutely. This is a great practical application to understand brain-based mechanics and theory. If you’d like to further your understanding once you experience it for yourself, you can continue through the certification levels with The Singing Athlete.

I’m a performer, not a teacher — is the intensive a good starting place?

Yes. If you’re a performer interested in brain-based training for your own performance application, this is the most hands-on, directly personal option to study brain-based singing training.

Who will I be learning from?

Week 1 is co-taught by Miranda Crispin, Ally Dixon, and Rebecca Joy Johnes. Week 2 is led by Andrew Byrne, with Ally Dixon and Rebecca Joy Johnes assisting. Dr. Anne Healy leads the Song Text Analysis workshop in both weeks. Meet the full faculty below.

Is Lausanne walkable?

Lausanne is walkable and public transit friendly.

I speak English — is the course taught in French?

Both weeks are taught in English. During Week 1, a bilingual teacher is present and translation is provided as needed.

Can AMT Live help me find housing?

We’re happy to help you narrow down options in the area once you’ve targeted a few that fit your preferences and budget.

I have no repertoire prepared — is that okay?

Don’t worry about having something “performance ready” upon arrival. For Week 1, any level of preparation is fine as long as you have at least a segment of a piece you can sing from memory — for example, a 32-bar cut. For the advanced Week 2, you’ll need to come with at least a few pieces prepared from memory to work on.

I’m still in training, not a professional performer — can I attend?

Yes — as long as you have a healthy interest and appetite for learning and are willing to dive in, you are welcome. (The best professionals are always still learning!)

I have a current injury — could I still attend?

Yes, although some of the activities may be less available to you depending on the injury. Send us a message and we’ll be happy to discuss.
