Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Singing Athlete™ Certification?
The Singing Athlete™ Certification is a multi-level training pathway that teaches voice professionals how to integrate neuroscience, movement, and high-performance training into vocal work. It combines lecture, assessment strategies, hands-on drills, case studies, and direct application through master classes — all designed to expand your teaching toolkit and help singers make faster, lasting improvements.
Who is this certification for?
Voice teachers, voice clinicians, singing coaches, SLPs, movement coaches, and performing artists who want cutting-edge, practical tools to help themselves and others sing with more freedom, efficiency, and artistry.
If you care about the voice and the brain behind it, you’ll feel right at home.
What makes this different from other voice certifications?
With The Singing Athlete™ Certification, you’re not just learning about voice — you’re learning how to train the brain and body behind the voice.
Many voice systems teach anatomy or technique — this teaches the nervous system and how it drives singing.
It blends neuroscience, movement, and vocal performance into a practical, drill-based system you can use immediately — on yourself and with your students.
The process is designed to assess and reassess, so you’re not guessing what drill to use — you know what your singer or your body needs.
It doesn’t replace your current approach — it integrates with what you already do and adds a brain-based, body-based lens that makes it stronger.
It works for all styles — pop, opera, country, musical theatre — because it focuses on the underlying systems of voice, not just genre-specific tricks.
With lifetime access to the drill library, videos, and support materials, you’re set up to keep growing long after the course ends.
In short: if you’re ready to move from “teaching singing” or “training voice” to practicing modern, brain-based, whole-body voice performance, this program delivers tools, clarity, and outcomes that few other voice certifications currently do.
Do I need prior anatomy or neuroscience training?
No — you do not need a neuroscience or anatomy background to succeed.
We start with core concepts and build up gradually.
Plus, your tuition includes access to the Singing Athlete Pre-Game Course (a $197 value), which you’ll complete before the live certification.
This gives you a clear, friendly overview of the most important anatomy and brain concepts — so you arrive confident, prepared, and already speaking the language.
Is there prep work before the course?
Yes — and it’s designed to make the live experience even more valuable.
When you enroll, you’ll immediately receive access to the Singing Athlete Pre-Game Course (included with your tuition — $197 value).
This online program walks you through the key anatomy, breathing, and brain principles we’ll use throughout the weekend, so you’re fully grounded before we dive into application.
What’s included in my tuition?
Your tuition for each level includes:
Full 3-day certification experience (online or in-person, depending on the cohort)
Hands-on drills, practice sessions, and coaching
Access to the Singing Athlete Pre-Game Course (a $197 value)
Downloadable practice resources & drill guides
LIFETIME ACCESS to the Singing Athlete Drill Library Video Series, which helps you integrate the drills into your practice with confidence.
You’re not just attending an event — you’re joining a learning path.
Do I get access to the drills after the course?
Yes — and this is one of the most valuable parts of the certification.
Along with your live training, you’ll receive a library of individual drill videos.
Each exercise taught in the certification is recorded separately with clear narration, so you can review and practice anytime without scrubbing through full class replays.
This means you can:
Revisit each drill at your own pace
Practice with proper form and cues
Integrate the work into your voice studio or personal practice immediately
Think of it as your personal Singing Athlete drill encyclopedia — right at your fingertips.
What’s the difference between Level One, Two, Three, and Four?
Level One — Foundations + Core Assessment
Level One follows the first half of The Singing Athlete™ and builds the foundation of brain-based voice training. You’ll learn how to assess and train breathing, postural support, core, neck, jaw, and tongue using nervous-system principles. You leave with a clear assessment model and drills you can use immediately with students.
Level Two — Advanced Nervous-System Tools + Special Protocols
Level Two continues through the second half of the book and expands into systems rarely included in traditional voice education. You’ll learn advanced sensory drills, vision and balance work, inflammatory response tools, ear training and memory strategies, and targeted protocols for swelling and congestion. Your differential-diagnosis and application skills deepen significantly.
Level Three — Peripheral Nervous System + Full-Body Integration
Level Three moves beyond the book into high-level, whole-body vocal training. You’ll integrate peripheral nerve mapping, joint mobility systems, spinal pathways, and reflexive stability strategies that dramatically improve vocal consistency, stamina, and power. This level emphasizes advanced case work and performance-system resilience.
Level Four — Mastery + Advanced Clinical-Level Application
Level Four deepens your ability to work with elite and complex voice clients — from professional performers under load to long-standing compensatory patterns. You’ll refine high-level assessment, advanced neuro-drill application, performance-pressure strategies, and long-form case analysis.
Graduates are senior Singing Athlete™ practitioners and are fully prepared for the optional future capstone teacher-training track.
Do I have to take the levels in order?
Yes — each level builds on the knowledge of the previous one.
Is the program online or in person?
Levels One and Two are offered in both formats — you can choose to attend online or in person, depending on your schedule and learning preference.
Levels Three and Four are in-person only, since they involve advanced assessment, hands-on drills, and deeper real-time coaching that requires physical presence for the best learning experience.
Where does the in-person training take place?
Most in-person trainings currently take place in New York City.
The Salt Lake City course will be the first one outside of NYC.
How long is the training?
Each level is a three-day immersive experience.
How long do I have access to the course materials + drill videos?
You’ll have lifetime access to the Level One Pre-Game Course, your drill video library, course replays, and all support materials associated with your level.
That means you can revisit the lessons, refine your skills, and continue deepening your understanding forever — long after the training weekend ends.
Will I get a replay if I miss part of the training?
Yes — online participants receive daily replays.
A recording of each training day is uploaded within 24 hours so you can catch up, review, or revisit the material as needed.
In-person participants receive an archival video of the training weekend. Because the live course is highly interactive and movement-based, the in-room recording may occasionally miss moments or have angles where things aren’t perfectly clear — it’s designed as a reference, not a polished replay.
Either way, you’ll have support to review the material and stay on track with the content.
How many people are in each cohort?
Cohorts are intentionally small so every participant receives individual attention and coaching.
Do I need to be a professional singer or teacher to join?
No — this certification is skills-based, not performance-based. Teaching experience is helpful, but singers looking to expand their own understanding also succeed here.
How do I know if I’m a good fit?
If you’re a voice professional or performer who is curious, open-minded, loves learning, and wants science-informed techniques you can use immediately, you’re a perfect fit.
You do not need to be a “science person” — you just need curiosity and a growth mindset.
Are there payment plans?
Yes. You can reserve your spot with a 50% deposit.
However, full payment at the time of registration unlocks a $100 early-bird discount, so most participants choose to pay in full to receive the savings.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes — refunds are available if requested within 7 days of the first day of class.
If something unexpected comes up and you can’t attend, many participants choose to bank their tuition and apply it to a future certification date instead. You’re always welcome to move into another cohort that fits your schedule better.
Can I teach The Singing Athlete™ material after Level One?
Yes — once you complete the Level One certification testing.
After the live training, you’ll complete a short assessment to demonstrate understanding of the material. Once you pass, you’ll receive your official Level One Certification Certificate and be added to the Certified Practitioner Directory on thesingingathlete.com.
This ensures you’re supported, confident, and recognized as an approved Singing Athlete™ practitioner.
(Many teachers begin integrating the material into lessons right away — the testing simply formalizes your credential and unlocks directory placement.)
Can I take a level again?
Absolutely — many practitioners love to revisit a level as a refresher once they’ve been applying the work in the real world.
Returning students receive alumni pricing when retaking any level.
Repeating courses is completely optional — but often incredibly valuable.
